Super Monarch

Super soca queen Faye-Ann did it! She owned the 2009 Soca Monarch competition last night by capturing every category; Power, Groovy and People’s Choice. Well done my dear, you deserved it.

Oopsy

Oh Lord my computer has been acting up. Work has been stressful and it’s Carnival. So I apologise for not posting regularly, but I should be back on track soon.

Love yuh!

Ain’t Karma a Bitch

Last week the Express sought it fit to  scandalise CNMG. Well because of CL Financial’s situation the tables have turned, and the Guardian saw it fit to return the favour.

Vote for T&T

Ok every year Today show host Matt Lauer goes all over the world for his segment, “Where in the World is Matt Lauer?’ It’s a cool segment, where they feature different countries, some of which you may or may not of heard of.

They’ve never come to Trinidad and Tobago. BIG mistake! We’re a great country. Really, ask new convert Queen Latifah.

Anyways, you can go to the Today show website here and cast your vote for Trinidad and Tobago. Do it Now!

These are the shots from my tour of Belmont. So you could see some of the things I was talking about. More importantly, you’ll see the fretwork I fell in love with.

The Historic Tour of Belmont

Last Sunday my friend and I went on the Historical Tour of Belmont put on by the National Museum of Trinidad & Tobago. It was great. It was so good to see Belmont with an informed eye. I spent two years travelling in an out of Belmont daily when I did Sixth Form in St. Francois, and wasn’t appropriately appreciative of it’s beauty.

We learned about the Africans who came as free men to Trinidad; a lot of them settled in Belmont. The Mandigos, Ibos and Radas came as artisens, masons: literate free men who lived and thrived in one of Port-of-Spain’s first suburbs.

We looked at the wonderful fretwork, some of these men and their ancestors worked on. Fretwork is like a wooden filigree accent you put on your roof or window. It adds a lovely design element to your house and is a hallmark of Colonial architecture.

Trinidad is my Land!

My boys made me so proud again today! I could care less what people say about them, they ran a damn fine race…nobody was looking for us to medal and we did...silver!

The Jamaican team came first, apprently they, like, broke a record or something.

Happy Emancipation Day!

The Transatlantic Slave Trade was abolished in 1807 by Britain.  On August 1st 1834, all of the slaves in the British Empire were freed. Though they were bound to their former masters for a few years, we recognise August 1st as the official end of that evil system. Have a Happy Emancipation Day!

Music to Make your Day!

This is one of my new favourite songs. Its by a Tobagonian youth going by the sobriquet: Positive. I just love his “tinny” vocals and how he switches key for emphasis in the chorus. It’s one of those songs that makes the sun shine brighter when it plays (I swear it does)! Happy Thursday.

I really like “Only in the Ghetto” as well; its listed on his Myspace profile. Another one of his tunes that’s popular on local radio.
