Party Shoes
I recently returned from a trip to MIA to visit my mother. If I’ve never mentioned it before, the woman is shoe obsessed! It was during this trip that she purchased 5 pairs in one weekend, and then tried to blame me for being a bad influence. Truth is she can’t help herself, and this was simply a case of her latent shoe love flaring up.
During one of our trips we found ourselves in Ninewest; a store I love for having lovely shoes I can afford. And I met this gorgeous shoe. It’s so obviously an evening shoe that isn’t ashamed to make a statement, without being tacky. In fact I find it very elegant, and don’t know why I didn’t purchase a pair (OK I know why I didn’t but still).
Fellowship of the Rings
Fashion to me should be fun. And jewelry should be special. If I had to describe my style, it would be classic with a kick. By that I mean: rings shaped like squares, matte gold jewelry, you know stuff like that. That’s why I was so attracted to the whole concept of coloured diamonds.
Oddly enough though, I find the best jewelry comes from the smaller jeweller. The ones who are so into their designs, and create really original pieces. I know there are some standard settings, but sometimes what limits you can inspire greatness. I love the jewelers who are really artists and used metal and precious stones as their medium.
I’m not an artist myself, but I have ideas in my head for jewelry, and once the funds are there plan to “design” some pieces with a trusted jeweler. I’m very picky and custom jewelry fits my control-freak personality.
In real life I don’t wear alot. My only mandatory jewelry is my rosary ring, I always try to have a gold and a silver one so I can always wear one when I go out. I don’t wear earrings regularly, though I want to. I plan to get some studs for my ears. They’re pierced twice, and I need to keep the newer holes open. I’ve just been slack.
Fashionable Tribute to MJ
Much has been said about Michael Jackson and how he’s changed the music world. All dem young R&B boys skipping across stages with mics in their hands using moves Michael created for his Thriller album.
But what about his fashion? His jackets were crazy detail-oriented pieces. The shades, the hair, the shoes etc. What’s really cool is taking one of his looks or several to create something really interesting.
Using my favourite fashion toy Polyvore, I did a tribute look for Michael. It’s a sort of combo of looks from his Thriller and Bad videos. Structured jacket with unusual detailing; here a crop. Red tank to recall his Thriller and Bad colour schemes. And of course the glove.
Hope you like it.
Wear the Rainbow
I’m actually coming round to the aesthetic benefits of coloured jeans. Still not convinced of their versatility or appropriateness for girls with curves, but am open to the possibilities.
This was my first try, and I quite like it!
The second attempt was less successful. I was less focused on the jeans and more concerned with the colour combination.
Night Out
We used to lime more, my co-workers and I. Then we got stale. Last Friday we decided that a little Martin’s after work was the best way to end a so-so day and an iffy week. Funny how drinks and ole talk can improve the yuckiest moods. So in spirit of encouraging myself, and others to socialize more, here’s some ideas about what you could wear when liming.
Fashion Distraction
I finally caved and created a polyvore account. As far as I’m concerned this could be a cool way to play with fashion on the cheap. It’s like dolly house for adults, and it’s way more interactive that browsing for clothes online.
Check out my first two sets.
…Or Are They?
Here’s the thing. Apparently diamonds equate pain and lies. Most diamonds came through De Beers; which operates a cartel; essentially an operation where the various business
partners don’t compete with each other. As such, deals to maintain control and supply in order to artificially control prices are common. And yes that’s what happened with diamonds. Apparently in the 1930s the Chairman of the De Beer’s group believed the stability of the diamond trade depended upon this level of control.
Diamonds Are Forever!
I love diamonds. They’re gorgeous and wonderful, and I love them. I love them regardless of colour, but yea the bigger the better. I once told a friend that a proposal without a ring, means the guy isn’t serious. I’ve since modified my view, but I still love diamonds.
Why Do I Still Care About Fashion?
I read a lot of great articles today while surfing the web. Most of them about fashion, but by the time I was done I was wondering: why the hell do I still care about fashion? I’m not talking about Old Navy to Banana Republic type of fashion, but the high-end couture making, $1000 shoe type of fashion. Why do I still care about it?
More and more it seems to be a bastion of irredeemable awfulness, all wrapped up in the latest designer must have.
Shoe Porn
I’m one of those girls; I LOVE shoes to distraction. Which is hard in Trinidad, because it’s difficult to find styles I really like here. So I satisfy my cravings with the odd magazine and the Internet.
In that vein I present my new favourite shoe blog:
- shoewawa.com. Shoes are art! Her honest assessments are a big draw, but more so are the reviews of this and these. Which brings me to the new love of my life.
- Karen Miller! Her creations are amazing, they are unabashedly girlie without being weak. They let you to bring drama to your outfit in a subtle way. This is one of my favourites, and the clothes are great too.
- Aldo is great too; you just have to toggle between the US and UK sites to strike gold. Right now I’m dreaming of the Himel in yellow.
- I discovered Steve Madden in the time when heavy platform flip flops were in. But he’s evolved and now offers some amazing pumps. I have a version of this with a woven upper, and I love it.
- Shoe Dish is another of my go to blogs when I need to address my fix.
A girl can’t have too much shoes.
